#EliStrong: Community joins hands and prays for teen battling cancer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A West Virginia teen has touched the hearts of many in Holden Beach.

Eli Clark, 14, and his family live in Parkersburg, WV but have been traveling to the Brunswick County coast for several years. Eli was diagnosed with Central Nervous System Neuroblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.

Doctors say the tumor is growing, so his mom and dad asked him where he wanted to go for vacation. He chose Holden Beach. Through the power of social media and generous donations, the community funded an entire vacation for the Clark family earlier this month.

Since his visit, Eli’s family reached out to the Friends of Holden Beach Facebook page to ask for prayers. And just like before, many have come together to offer support hundreds of miles away.

About a dozen people, including Jessica Viox and Nancy Lilly, came together Thursday evening for a prayer gathering on the beach. Strangers, friends, locals and visitors held hands to spread a hopeful message.

Another prayer circle will be held Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the Holden Beach Fishing Pier. Everyone is invited.
