Elizabethtown fire leads to attempted murder, arson charges
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — A Robeson County man faces charges in a fire that destroyed one apartment in Elizabethtown and damaged two others.
Brandon Malone, 20, is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and one count of first degree arson.
The fire broke out January 14, just after 10:30 p.m at an apartment complex in the 700 block on Mercer Mill Road.
Elizabethtown Police say when emergency responders arrived, two minor children who were in the apartment had just gotten out. The apartment was fully involved by the time fire crews arrived. Police say they kept the fire contained to the main apartment, but apartments on either side of it did have some damage.
Police say this all began as a domestic dispute. Malone was visiting the apartment at that the time. Investigators say they have probably cause that Malone set the fire inside the apartment.
Malone was arrested in Robeson County.
He is now in the Bladen County Law Enforcement Center under a $325,000 bond.
No one got hurt.
