Ex-wife kills professor in University of SC murder-suicide
COLUMBIA, SC (AP) — Authorities say the ex-wife of a University of South Carolina professor came to his work and killed him before committing suicide.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 46-year-old Sunghee Kwon shot 45-year-old Raja Fayad several times Thursday afternoon at the Public Health building, then fatally shot herself in the abdomen.
Watts said Friday that the couple divorced a few years ago, but continued to live in the same home until splitting up for good several months ago.
State police say a 9 mm pistol with an empty magazine was found near the bodies.
Fayad came to South Carolina in 2008. His university biography says he was graduate director and head of the Applied Psychology Division. He taught anatomy and physiology and got his medical degree in Syria.
