Fair Housing Workshop helps community get answers
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Answering questions about your rights when trying to find a home while helping those in the community, that is what the Cape Fear Housing Coalition did Tuesday morning.
Dozens including renters, home-buyers, landlords, real estate professionals and many others attended the event in Wilmington.
The workshop focused on the Fair Housing Act which protects people against discrimination based on their race, religion, gender, or disabilities when trying to rent or buy a home.
“I hope that people took away from this event one some greater knowledge about their rights as North Carolinians,” Fair Housing Project Legal Aid of NC Co-Director, Jack Holtzman said. “Their right to housing free of discrimination. And hopefully they will be part of the solution and will help us enforce fair housing here in North Carolina.”
Holtzman was the keynote speaker and hopes the event was beneficial.
The workshop also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Fair Housing Act.
