Families invited for fun and learning to celebrate MLK Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For many in Wilmington, this weekend was all about celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

One event to honor Dr. King was going on Saturday at the building that bears his name in Wilmington, the MLK Center.

All were invited to a Family Fun Day with games, face painting, educational displays, and refreshments, free of charge to mark MLK Day.

There was a great turnout and many of the children had big smiles on their faces.

The MLK Center’s recreation coordinator, Cliff Barnett, said it was cool to see the kids learn at this event.

“It’s a privilege just to be able to be a part of this program and to continue to work with the kids, to honor Martin Luther King, of course. We know that he was really big on education and that’s one thing that we want to provide here for the kids,” said Barnett.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed Monday, which is the third Monday of January.
