Final suspect arrested in deadly Bladen County home invasion

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – U.S. Marshals have arrested the fourth suspect wanted in a deadly home invasion.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office says Africa Shipman, 35, was arrested at a family member’s home in Las Vegas.

“We requested the assistance of the Marshall’s Service after we received credible information that Shipman was on the run and had fled to other states. It is good to be able to reach out to fellow law enforcement agencies but federal, state and local to ask their help in bringing a wanted fugitive to justice,” said Sheriff James McVicker.

The investigation began on October 15, when Gregory Skinner was left outside the emergency room at Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville. Skinner was pronounced dead at the hospital.

At the same time, investigators were called to a home in the Buckhead community for a shooting. Deputies found Donwia Wayne Griffith dead inside the home. Investigators say several people conspired with Skinner to rob Griffith.

Three other suspects were already arrested and face murder charges.

Shipman is in Las Vegas awaiting extradition.
