Hats on Parade Fashion Show honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations continued Tuesday night with the Hats on Parade Fashion Show.

The fashion show took place at Douglass Academy in Wilmington.

Organizers said at an event on Monday that Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, was known for wearing fashionable hats.

This is the first year the event has been held in Wilmington, and dozens of people came out to celebrate.

“Dr. King struggled so hard for us to have these rights and we want to make sure that we do everything we can to keep hope alive and keep his dream alive,” Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee member Audrey Clark said.

The event included a musical performance and tons of hats.

The celebration continues Wednesday with an improv comedy show at Dead Crow Comedy in downtown Wilmington.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration committee has helped organize events happening all week long in the Cape Fear.
