Flounder restrictions starting in the new year

Nags Head, NC (StarNewsOnline) — Fisherman will have new regulations to follow starting January 1st.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission has approved new restrictions on catching flounder.

Cammie Bellamy with the StarNews reports starting Jan. 1, both commercial and recreational fisherman will be restricted to catching southern flounder that are at least 15 inches or longer. The same day mesh on anchored large-mesh gill nets will have to be six inches or larger and fisherman will not be able to use those nets or trammel nets between Oct. 16 and Dec. 31.
