Forensic testimony heard in double-murder trial

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Testimony continued Friday in the double-murder trial of Omonté Bell and Dyrell Green, with jurors hearing from three forensic scientists from the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory.
Bell and Green are charged in the 2021 killings of Briyanna Williams and Koredreese Tyson at the home of George Taylor III, the former chief operating officer of Tru Colors Brewing. The Wilmington-based brewery gained national attention for employing active gang members before closing in 2022.
One forensic analyst testified that five shell casings recovered from the crime scene were fired from two different firearms. According to the testimony, two of the casings were fired from one gun, while the remaining three were fired from another.
Jurors also heard from a DNA analyst, who testified that swabs collected from inside the home did not match either Bell or Green.
The forensic testimony followed the state’s continued presentation of evidence in the case, which is now entering its second week of testimony.
The trial is scheduled to resume Monday morning in New Hanover County Superior Court.
