Former New Hanover County Commissioner announces plan to run again

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A former New Hanover County Commissioner announced today that he will run for county commission again.

New Hanover County native Buck O’Shields was a member of the New Hanover County Commission from 1974 until 1983. Today he said in a press release that the county faces a variety of difficult issues and that he is confident he can make a difference for the future.

“Economic development and environmental issues have always been a concern,” O’Shields said in a statement. “When I was a county commissioner previously, I worked with fellow commissioners to establish and protect many of the valuable resources utilized by our citizens today. We worked with the state to complete the last leg of I-40 from Benson to Wilmington, put in place a funding source for critical beach re nourishment, established the Parks and Recreation Department, and helped implement waste water collection systems along the sensitive creeks and waterways to improve water quality in our estuaries, just to name a few.”
