Front Street bridge to see overnight lane closures ahead of major repairs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Overnight lane closures are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sep. 8, on the Front Street bridge in downtown Wilmington ahead of a larger structural repair project.
The closures will take place nightly from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on the bridge between Hanover and Red Cross streets. The overnight work is expected to continue for about one week.
A flagger will be stationed at the bridge to control traffic, allowing northbound and southbound vehicles to alternate through the work area.
The overnight closures are part of preparations for a larger project that will require the bridge to close to vehicles beginning Sept. 26. The closure is expected to last about six months while structural repairs are completed.
An adjacent pedestrian walkway on the east side of the bridge is expected to remain open for most of the project.
Drivers will be able to detour around the bridge using Nutt Street or other streets within the downtown road network.
