Fugitive caught in Southport
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted for multiple crimes by multiple law enforcement agencies was arrested last night in Brunswick County.
The US Marshals Eastern North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested James Bennett Mizell around 9 p.m. in the Sea Pines community in Southport, a task force spokesman says, after getting what the spokesman called “significant assistance” from Oak Island Police.
Detectives in Pitt County took out a warrant late last week for Mizell’s arrest after they say he attempted an armed robbery of a gas station in Farmville. They say after the media published his photo, he was identified by other agencies, and they obtained warrants for his arrest in their jurisdictions, as well, including robberies of two hotels.
Mizell is in the Brunswick County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond, plus $3,132 cash bond for child support. He will be taken back to Pitt County in the next few days to face charges.
