Fundraiser for cancer fight honors late judge

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Your sweet tooth can help some good causes and honor a judge and soldier who died of cancer.

Pancreatic cancer took the life New Hanover County judge and veteran John Carroll in May. Monday would have been his birthday.

To honor him, family and friends are sponsoring a fundraiser at Mandi’s Ice Cream at 7024-B Market Street in Wilmington. They’ll collect items for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and sell T-shirts. And if you buy a special John’s Tracks Sundae, the money will go toward the fight against pancreatic cancer.

The event runs Monday from noon to 9 p.m. Organizers hope to make it an annual event.
