Funds for Matthew recovery temporarily frozen by FEMA

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas are causing money earmarked for Hurricane Matthew recovery in our area to be frozen by FEMA temporarily.

One of the notable projects this restriction could affect is construction of the Oak Island pier.

The town of Oak Island is expecting a good chunk of the money to rebuild the pier to come from FEMA.

Plans have been submitted from the town and are currently being reviewed.

If those plans get approved by FEMA, the money would be allocated after the freeze is lifted.
