Gas leak closes U.S. 421 North in both directions in New Hanover County

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — A gas leak has closed U.S. 421 North in both directions in New Hanover County.

The leak was reported in the 5000 block of U.S. 421 North.

New Hanover County Fire Rescue is working with Piedmont Gas and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to detour traffic around the area.

County officials said the closure is limiting access to the New Hanover County landfill and other nearby businesses.

Officials have not said how long the closure is expected to last.
