Guardians of the Children gives voice to children in need

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Officials say nearly four million child abuse cases are reported each year.

When it comes to children who have been abused and neglected, getting them to talk in the courtroom can be difficult. That is where Guardians of the Children steps in to help. The biker group is unlike others around The Cape Fear, their mission is to stop child abuse and help those who have been abused.

They want victims to feel safe and be able to talk about their situation in a comfortable setting. Especially in the courtroom where members of the organization sit with the children while they testify.

“When they’re in the courtroom, there’s been a 90-percent conviction rate,” President of the organization, David Laws said.

Not only do members provide strength and stability to families in crisis, they are also raising awareness about child abuse. Guardians of the Children are holding a fundraiser Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Arby’s on College Road in Monkey Junction.
