Hagan, Tillis go head to head again
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (WWAY) — It was debate night in North Carolina as Sen. Kay Hagan and NC House Speaker Thom Tillis debated at UNC-TV Studios in the Research Triangle Park.
Hagan and Tillis went head tohead over controversial issues.
Tillis is still attempting to toe the party line and link Hagan to President Obama by jumping on statements from the president that this election was a referendum on his policies. Hagan drilled into her idea that Tillis hasn’t done anything positive for the state of North Carolina.
Then the candidates debated a range of issues, including ISIS, Ebola and the controversial issue of gay marriage.
“There are other circuits that have not decided,” Tillis said of gay marriage challenges in US Appeals courts. “Ultimately, we hope that this does go to the Supreme Court.”
“I do not think anyone, including the government, should tell someone who they love or who they can marry,” Hagan responded.
Among the candidates and outside groups, $30 million has been spent on this race. That makes it one of the most expensive in the country.
For Hagan’s part, the ads appear to be working to give her a slight lead in the polls.
Election day is Nov. 4.
