Halyburton Park set ablaze

The City of Wilmington set Halyburton Park ablaze today. It was a controlled burn at the park on South 17th Street.

About 15 to 20 acres were scorched in an effort to minimize the risk of wildfires while removing undergrowth, making it easier for native plants to grow. This is the second controlled burn at Halyburton.

The Wilmington Fire Department and the North Carolina Forest Service stood by to make sure that everything went smoothly and safely.
