Hickey requests recount in New Hanover Commission race

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The race for New Hanover County Commission is not over yet.

The Board of Elections says Republican Derrick Hickey has requested a recount in the election. Hickey finished third in the race for two open seats 186 votes behind Democrat Rob Zapple, who finished second behind Republican Skip Watkins.

The recount is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m.

There could still be another recount for New Hanover County School Board, where Democrat Emma Saunders finished in fifth place for four seats fewer than 600 votes behind Republican Ed Higgins. Saunders has until tomorrow afternoon to request a recount.
