Highway Patrol: Ash man dies after speeding SUV hits tree

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An Ash man died over the weekend after Highway Patrol says the driver lost control of his car and hit a tree.

Highway Patrol Trooper J. M. Gardner says the single car collision happened early Sunday around 1 a.m. on N.C. 904 near S.R. 1300 in Brunswick County.

Investigators say Casimiro Barron, 50, was driving east on N.C. 904 and lost control around a curve. The SUV ran off of the road on the right, began over-turning and struck a tree. After impact, the SUV came to rest in a yard off of N.C. 904.

Barron died from his injuries. Investigators believe he was speeding and wasn’t wearing a seat belt. They also say alcohol was a factor.
