Hoggard football defeats Topsail 40-7, remains undefeated in conference play
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Hoggard Vikings continued their winning streak Friday night, defeating the Topsail Pirates 40-7 to remain undefeated in conference play. Hoggard entered the matchup having scored 40 or more points in each of its previous three games, and the Vikings kept that offensive momentum going against Topsail.
Quarterback Matthew Boring got Hoggard on the scoreboard early, connecting with Judah Gillespie on a 25-yard touchdown pass to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead. Topsail’s defense stepped up with two red-zone stops, including a pass breakup by Aaron Sandherr that forced Hoggard to settle for a field goal, extending its lead to 10-0.
In the second quarter, Boring added another touchdown, this time using his legs to find the end zone and put the Vikings ahead 17-0. Hoggard continued to build its lead, taking a commanding 31-0 advantage into halftime as Topsail struggled to find the end zone.
The Vikings went on to secure the 40-7 victory, keeping their undefeated conference record intact.
