Hoggard football shuts out New Hanover 42-0 in crosstown rivalry
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hoggard football delivered a dominant performance against crosstown rival New Hanover on Friday night, shutting out the Wildcats 42-0 at Scott Braswell Stadium.
The Vikings wasted little time taking control. Quarterback Matthew Boring connected with Nakula O’Connor for a touchdown to put Hoggard ahead 7-0.
Boring went back to work in the red zone, finding Micah Hunter in traffic for another touchdown to extend the Vikings’ lead to 14-0.
Hoggard’s defense then joined the scoring. New Hanover quarterback Ronan Brady looked downfield, but Preston Toups tipped the pass into the hands of Graham McNeely, who returned the interception for a touchdown to make it 21-0.
The Vikings continued to pile on the points. Beckett Caffee added another touchdown before Boring connected with Desyn Durand, who fought through New Hanover defenders and reached the end zone.
Hoggard took a 42-0 advantage into halftime, which would hold as the final score. The victory gives the Vikings another win over their longtime crosstown rival and moves Hoggard to 2-0 in conference play.
