Hoggard High School families to meet with district over mold, air quality concerns

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Parents of Hoggard High School students will have an opportunity to meet with New Hanover County Schools next week as the district continues addressing mold and air quality concerns on campus.

Meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23. District and school staff will meet from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a meeting with families from 5 to 6 p.m.

Earlier this month, New Hanover County Schools closed off the school’s cafeteria after discoloration was discovered on the kitchen ceiling.

The district is also working to address air quality concerns in Hoggard’s science, arts and NJROTC wing.

According to the district, the mold issues were linked to HVAC failures that were made worse by extreme heat during the summer.

New Hanover County Schools estimates a full remediation will cost approximately $470 million.
