Hoggard High School wins 2025-2026 WWAY Vinedresser Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The Hoggard Vikings have captured the inaugural WWAY Vinedresser Cup, presented in partnership with Vinedresser Lawn and Landscape Maintenance.

Created to recognize all-around athletic excellence, the Vinedresser Cup honors the Carolina Coast Conference school that demonstrates the strongest performance across an entire academic year. The competition featured all seven conference members and evaluated results in eight major team sports spanning the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Schools earned points based on regular-season standings and postseason success, rewarding both consistency and championship-level achievement. For more information on the scoring format, click here.

Hoggard’s victory comes after a standout year across multiple sports. The Vikings made several deep postseason runs, including multiple appearances in state championship events. The school’s boys soccer team secured the schools sole state championship.

Topsail High School placed second place, and Laney finished in third place.

The accomplishment is particularly notable given the level of competition. Hoggard competes in North Carolina’s 8A classification, the state’s largest classification, alongside Laney High School.

Hoggard Athletic Director Allison Jones said the award reflects the commitment and hard work shown by athletes and coaches throughout the year.

“The fun thing about awards like the Vinedresser Cup is that it takes every athlete, in every game, and every coach to win,” Jones said.

Unlike championships that recognize a single team, the Vinedresser Cup highlights the collective success of an entire athletic department, emphasizing sustained excellence across multiple sports and seasons.

WWAY and Vinedresser Lawn and Landscape Maintenance are pleased to announce that the Vinedresser Cup will return next school year for its second season, continuing to celebrate athletic achievement throughout the Carolina Coast Conference.
