Holiday travel despite high gas and ticket prices
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Airports and roads throughout the state are full of holiday travelers today. Even with the escalating airfares, and soaring gas prices, many people are still traveling this holiday season.
More than 2.5 million North Carolinians are expected to travel by car over the next week. Thomas Nadeau is traveling to Charlotte. He says he tries to find ways to cut back.
“You just try to do the little things, like smarter travel routes, good maintenance on the vehicle to save gas and make sure the tires are filled,” says Nadeau.
The predicted inclement weather for this weekend was also a cause for worry among travelers. But most say they have taken the exta precaution and prepped their vehicles for ice and snow.
The DOT says they are prepared for any rough weather on Saturday and Sunday. Right now they say they are just waiting to see what happens.
