Holly Ridge police issue community update on recent incidents
HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. (WWAY) — Holly Ridge police are investigating recent vehicle break-ins in the southern part of town and reports of gunshots in the Holly Hills community.
The Town of Holly Ridge said Monday that the Holly Ridge Police Department is working with partnering law enforcement agencies on both investigations.
Police said the vehicle break-ins under investigation have primarily involved unsecured or unlocked vehicles, allowing people to gain entry quickly and with minimal detection.
Based on information currently available, law enforcement has not identified a related threat to the general public.
Residents are encouraged to keep vehicles locked and secured at all times, including during the day, and avoid leaving valuables, particularly firearms, inside unattended vehicles whenever possible.
Firearm owners are also encouraged to keep a separate record of their firearms, including photographs, make, model and serial numbers. Police said having that information available can help officers enter stolen firearms into appropriate databases and assist with follow-up investigations if a theft occurs.
The town and police department are also responding to community concerns about reports of gunshots in the Holly Hills area over the past several weeks.
Officers have investigated property damage involving a known abandoned residence. Police said no specific or credible threat to the general public has been identified, and no definitive suspect has been established.
The town is asking residents to rely on verified information from the Holly Ridge Police Department and official town communication channels rather than rumors or speculation circulating on social media.
Officials said information about the active investigations will be released when it has been reasonably verified and can be shared without compromising the investigations.

Information may also be provided anonymously, and police said they will make every reasonable effort to protect the identity of people who wish to remain anonymous.
