Hurricane Florence survivors connect at block party

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– The New Hanover Disaster Coalition had a block party on Castle Street, in downtown Wilmington, to commemorate the one year anniversary of Hurricane Florence.

New Hanover County Director Audrey Hart says she and other organizers wanted people to celebrate the fact that they made it through a tough year.

Hart says residents were able to seek help for their needs through several organizations like, Hope 4 NC , Crown Shades, Team Rubicon, and so many more.

“The main thing I want folks to know, is they’re not alone, and recovery is not over. We’ll be here for years to come,” Hart said.

Hart also says she understands the recovery process is difficult for many, but she hopes people were able to enjoy their time at the party despite their hardships.
