Investigation continues in death of baby found in car

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police, along with other agencies in New Hanover County, continue to look into the death of a baby boy.

An 8-month-old was found dead in his mother’s car at Pax Natura at Childcare Network on Wilshire Blvd. after 5 p.m., but police believe the baby could have been in the car since 9:30 a.m.

In a statement from WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley, officials said the investigation will take several days.

“When the 911 call came out, the New Hanover County Child Fatality Protocol was immediately invoked,” Rawley said. “Officers and detectives at the Wilmington Police Department worked alongside investigators and prosecutors from the District Attorney’s Office and professionals from the Department of Social Services throughout the night.”

No charges have been filed.
