Jennifer Clift named Wilmington’s Information Technology Director

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington has promoted Jennifer Clift to serve as its Information Technology Director after she spent the past several months leading the department in an interim role.

Clift has worked for the city for nearly 18 years and has more than 30 years of experience in information technology and public-sector technology leadership.

As IT director, Clift will oversee the city’s technology operations, including efforts to provide secure and reliable technology services across city departments.

“I’ve had the pleasure to work with Jen over the past 14 months, and her genuine desire to find solutions and help others is the exact leadership needed for this vital role,” City Manager Becky Hawke said. “When combined with her deep knowledge of the City and strong technical expertise, she’s well prepared to build on the great work already underway in her department.”

Clift began her career with the city as a senior systems analyst, supporting applications across multiple departments and helping modernize systems. She was promoted to assistant IT director 10 years ago.

Before joining the City of Wilmington, Clift worked at Brown University on academic and administrative technology initiatives. She moved from Rhode Island to Wilmington 20 years ago.

Clift is a Certified Government Chief Information Officer and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Prosci Change Management certification. She is also a Fellow of the UNC School of Government’s Leading for Results program.
