‘JoJo and the Freaks’ filming planned at Wilmington’s Wallace Park

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A film production is seeking approval to film at Wallace Park in Wilmington later this month.

The production, “JoJo and the Freaks,” from Honey Head Films, is proposing to film outdoors at Wallace Park, 2110 Market St., on Sept. 19 and 20.

According to a city filming permit application, filming is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. each day. Production preparation is planned for Sept. 18, with the production scheduled to wrap Sept. 21. Sept. 23 or 24 are listed as contingency dates.

The production is expected to include four cast members, about 45 crew members and no extras.

Crew and equipment vehicles are expected to be parked in fields near Pender Avenue and Metts Avenue, with additional on-street parking planned along Metts Avenue near the field.

The application does not call for any street closures, traffic control or police officers. No special effects are planned.

Production is requesting the use of a condor in the park in the area designated for crew parking closest to Metts Avenue. The production is also asking to leave equipment trucks parked overnight near Metts Avenue.

The production has requested that the grass at Wallace Park be mowed before Sept. 18.

The city’s filming permit application says residents who believe the proposed filming would create an undue hardship should contact the city’s film liaison by 8 a.m. Sept. 17.
