Judge hears motions in NC governor campaign probe

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The lawyer for a New Bern man accused of hiding private flight donations to Gov. Beverly Perdue’s 2008 campaign says his client provided all the information campaign officials asked of him and questions how he could have done anything differently.

Attorney David Rudolf told a Wake County judge Friday that it was the responsibility of the Perdue campaign to report the donations. Rudolf represents Trawick “Buzzy” Stubbs Jr., who was in court along with Juleigh Sitton, a former aide to Perdue’s campaign.

Sitton and Stubbs are asking the judge to dismiss felony counts against them. Stubbs was indicted last November on charges related to chartered flights valued at more than $28,000 that the campaign didn’t initially report as contributions.

The prosecutor says Stubbs knew what he was doing was illegal.
