‘I feel really good’: Judge Ola Lewis continues cancer fight

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — We have been keeping you updated on Brunswick County Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis as she undergoes treatment for cancer.

As we told you Friday, she says she’s doing a lot better.

She spoke with WWAY’s Basil John in her first public interview Monday.

“I feel really good,” Judge Lewis said. ” I’ve had lots of friends and family to visit, and that always strengthens me.”

Lewis says she is felling better and is trying to kick cancer to the curb. She was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer and says the treatments are going well.

“The addition of anti-nausea medications,” she said “I’ve been handling chemo pretty well, and I’m very very grateful for that.”

Judge Lewis has spent the last three months at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for treatment. She says she is thankful for all the prayers and support coming from the Cape Fear.

“I can really tell the difference, the day that I shared and the day that the prayers started coming, in the way that I felt physically, in the way that I felt mentally and in the way that I was going to handle the fight ahead,” she said.

She says she is listening to doctors’ orders so she can eventually come back to Brunswick County.

She wants to let everyone back home know, “I miss you. I’m working hard to get back home and continue to serve the community that I so love and by his grace, I am Ola Strong.”

Judge Lewis said it is very beautiful in Minnesota but it’s a little too cold right now. She’s also made a couple of dietary changes as well to abide to the doctor’s orders.
