Kids cast ballots at polling precincts

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thousands of people are hitting the polls Tuesday. At some polling locations, kids were also given the opportunity to let their voice be heard in a way.

The purpose of the Kids Voting USA program is to engage youth and teach of the importance of this civic duty.

The Cape Fear Volunteer Center set up voting booths for kids to vote at the Northeast Library, UNCW, Coddington, and the Halyburton Park polling precincts.

5th grader Lilly Friesland says whoever is our next president she wants him or her to make our country better.

“I don’t think they are very good because Donald Trump gets frustrated and yells a lot, but Hillary Clinton I believe she did lie,” Friesland said.

The program allows students to accompany parents or other adults to official polling sites to vote on real candidates and ballot issues.
