‘Know Your Rights’ event held for public

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A “Know Your Rights” event was held Friday at the Martin Luther King Center in Wilmington.

The program was open to the public and intended to help citizens understand their constitutional rights when dealing with law enforcement.

Booklets with information were handed out after the meeting that addresses many issues that you might encounter while being questioned, searched, or arrested by law enforcement.

“I thought the event went great.”, said Katy Parker, a civil rights lawyer. “I was honored to be asked to be on the panel and I think it’s so important for the community to come out and hear what their right are when encountering law enforcement.”

The booklets were provided by the NAACP and the ACLU.
