Lane to be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There will be a lane closure on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway Wednesday night.
The right eastbound lane near the McRae Street exit in Wilmington, will be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m., Thursday.
This closure is necessary for the N.C. Department of Transportation to replace and upgrade a crash attenuator mounted on the deck of the bridge over Smith Creek. Crash attenuators are steel barriers that are placed in front of the concrete barrier walls of bridges. The attenuators are designed to soften the impact in a head-on collision with the concrete wall.
Directional signs and barrels will be used to guide motorists to safe detour routes. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays.
