Large fire destroys structure on South Shore Drive in Surf City

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY)–A large structure fire prompted a major emergency response late Saturday night in Surf City.

Fire crews were dispatched around 11 p.m. on July 4 to the 2200 block of South Shore Drive, where firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. The occupants safely evacuated before crews arrived, and no injuries were reported. As a precaution, nearby residences were also evacuated.

South Shore Drive remains closed in both directions between the 2200 and 2300 blocks as firefighters continue operations and investigators work to determine the cause of the fire. Motorists are urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes, and expect delays until the roadway reopens.

The Surf City Fire Department responded with assistance from the Topsail Beach Fire Department, Holly Ridge Fire Department, Pender County Emergency Services, Surf City Police Department, Surf City Emergency Management, Topsail Beach Police Department, and other mutual aid agencies.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
