Leland man charged with embezzlement and elderly abuse

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man is facing multiple embezzlement charges.

Leland Police charged Robert Houston Field, 66, of Leland with 5 counts of obtaining property by false pretense and 1 count of elder abuse.

Police say they received a report that showed between February 1 and August 30 Field had embezzled $49,620 and obtained an additional $8,975 fraudulently from an elderly citizen in the community.

Field is being held in the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $65,000 bond.
