Libertarian NC governor candidate says she’s done

OXFORD, NC (AP) — Three-time Libertarian governor candidate Barbara Howe says she will not make another run at the office.

The Daily Dispatch of Henderson reports that Howe said she shouldn’t run again.

Howe collected more than 95,000 votes in Tuesday’s general election, which was won by Republican Pat McCrory. That represents 2.1 percent of the popular vote, guaranteeing that a Libertarian will be on ballots for the next four years in any state or local race.

If Howe had failed to reach that plateau, the party likely would have been decertified by the State Board of Elections and would have had to collect signatures of registered voters to get back on the ballot.

Howe mentioned Lenoir city councilman T.J. Rohr as one of several possibilities to run for governor in 2016.
