Local church set to host first annual ‘Feed the 5000’ event to help feed Cape Fear families

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — A local pastor and community leader are inviting families across the Cape Fear to come together for a morning of food, fellowship and community support.
Pastor Richard Warren Jr. and Coach Cherie Lea joined Good Evening Wilmington anchor Tomika Jackson to talk about the first ever Feed the 5K Fish and Chicken Fry, taking place Saturday, August 1, 2026, beginning at 8 a.m. at 4201 Market Street in Wilmington.
The event is designed to serve the community by providing free fish, free chicken and other food at no cost while supplies last. Organizers say the goal is to bring people together, meet practical needs and encourage families throughout the Cape Fear region.
Organizers say everything will be free, inviting anyone who could use a meal or simply wants to enjoy a day of fellowship to attend.
