Local stores loving Cyber Monday
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Cyber Monday means huge discounts, especially for big box stores like WalMart and Target.
Folks around town like Hap Roberts say they prefer going online rather than fighting lines on Black Friday.
“Oh, I think it’s great,” Roberts said. “Now that the internet is more secure and all that’s more of a thing for me to do Cyber Monday.”
The marketing term started around nine years ago, but now only recently, local stores like Redix in Wrightsville beach are jumping in on the action. Store manager Gordon Reddick says they finally entered the world of online sales three years ago.
“It also opened up a lot more customers, you know from out of town, different states, all across the country,” Reddick said.
Being located in a vacation destination, means catering to folks from out of town, isn’t such a bad idea.
“Cyber Monday is great during the off season,” Reddick said. “Shopping picks up this time of year anyway but for us to have the online channel really picks up business for us.”
According to Fundivo.com online shopping numbers have sky rocketed in recent years, this year sales are projected to hit around $2.6 billion.
