Local teams to kick off season at NHCS Football Jamboree
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — High school football fans will get an early look at local teams before the start of the regular season during the New Hanover County Schools Football Jamboree at Legion Stadium.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14, with four matchups featuring local programs and visiting opponents.
The schedule is as follows:
- 5 p.m. — Laney vs. White Oak
- 6 p.m. — New Hanover vs. Wallace-Rose Hill
- 7 p.m. — Hoggard vs. East Duplin
- 8 p.m. — Ashley vs. Havelock
The jamboree serves as a preseason showcase for teams as they prepare for the upcoming high school football season.
Ahead of the event, NHCS will host an informal media day on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at noon in the Hoggard High School Media Center.
The event will include football coaches, athletic directors, school administrators and members of the media. Organizers said a light lunch will be provided.
Unlike previous years, the media day will feature only New Hanover County Schools programs. Each NHCS head football coach will have a designated area in the media center and will be available for brief interviews about the jamboree and the upcoming season.
Organizers said a virtual option may be available for the visiting schools participating in the jamboree.
