LUMBERTON, NC (WWAY) — Lumberton tops the list of poorest cities in the country, according to Credit.com.
According to the Credit.com story, Lumberton’s median income is $28,293 compared to the national median income of $51,371.
Lumberton, the seat of Robeson County, is one of three North Carolina cities in the top 10 along with Rocky Mount (#3) and Forest City (#9).
The 2012 list is reportedly based on 2010 Census data. That information is currently unavailable online due to the federal government shutdown.
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-7th District) was born and raised in Lumberton and still lives there. He also represented it in Congress from 1997 until this year, when it was moved out of the 7th District. We contacted his office for comment, but have so far received no response.
