Man accused of choking, robbing Wilmington cab driver

WILMINGTON (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say they arrested a man for choking and robbing a cab driver.

Alfonso Brooks, 40, was arrested and charged with common law robbery.

After hailing a cab outside City Limits Saloon downtown, investigators say Brooks choked the cab driver just before he got to his destination at 9th and Grace streets.

Police say Brooks ran from the cab with the driver’s money. The driver got out and chased him then pepper sprayed Brooks, but also accidentally sprayed himself.

Police found Brooks in an alley behind Hughes Brothers tires a short time later.

WPD arrested Brooks in June for allegedly robbing a convenience store.
