Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend in Georgia arrested in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in Georgia has been arrested in Wilmington.
A US Marshals Service spokesman says marshals and Wilmington Police arrested Matthew Terry, 42, Thursday night at Cypress Grove Apartments in Wilmington.
The Sandy Springs Police Department in Georgia wanted Terry for aggravated assault, burglary and possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime. Police say Terry shot his 38-year-old ex-girlfriend multiple times in her apartment March 24 then left in her car.
Terry was due in court today. Sandy Springs Police did not immediately return a call for comment.
Wilmington Police say according to Sandy Spring Police, Terry shot the mother of his two children in front of 17-year-old daughter and his four-year-old son on the front steps of the apartment complex.
WPD says a tip led them and US Marshals Fugitive Task Force to Terry. After a brief attempt to elude officers, police say WPD K-9 units caught Terry.
He is in jail awaiting extradition to Georgia.
