Man charged in fake $100 investigations

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — A man is facing charges after police said he tried to use fake money to buy items at stores in Bladen County.

Police said they were called to the Dollar General on Poplar Street on Saturday after a man tried to use the fake bill. The man then ran out of the store to try to escape but was arrested by police. Police said they then determined the suspect, John Sylvester Clax, also tried to use fake $100 bills at the CVS the day before.

Clax, who police said originally provided the wrong last name, is facing charges including obtaining property by false pretense. He was also served an existing warrant. He was booked in jail under a $31,000 bond.
