Man charged in jetty boat crash near Masonboro Inlet

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A boater who crashed into a jetty near Masonboro Inlet last month and injured a passenger faces charges.

N.C. Wildlife Officers confirm Bradley Pigford is charged with one count of operating a vessel in waters of the state in a reckless or negligent manner so as to endanger life, limb or property of any person.

On May 15, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued Pigford and Ian Aldrich after they swam to Masonboro Island after their boat hit the jetties.

N.C. Wildlife Officer Murphy Hall says Pigford had bruising and minor contusions. Aldrich had facial injuries and some teeth were knocked out.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash.

Pigford is scheduled to appear in court June 20.
