Man charged in shooting outside of MLK center


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police said a man accused in a shooting near downtown was taken into custody by US Marshals.

Police said Roy Augusta Smith II, 33, was arrested earlier today in connection with a shooting that happened on Friday outside of the Martin Luther King Center. Police said Smith shot into a car and hit someone on the hip.

Investigators believe the shooting was related to a domestic dispute. Smith is facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
