COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man who was released from prison last month after serving time in connection to the 2018 killing of State Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Conner is now facing new charges.

Raheem Davis, 26, is charged with felony larceny from the person and misdemeanor assault on an individual with a disability, according to court documents.

The charges stem from an incident alleged to have happened May 8 in Columbus County.

According to charging documents, Davis is accused of stealing a Life Alert electronic device and punching the victim.

The new charges come about a month after Davis was released from prison. North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records show Davis was released on parole April 5 after serving time for accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Davis pleaded guilty in 2024 in connection to the death of Trooper Kevin Conner.

Conner was fatally shot during a traffic stop on U.S. 701 in Columbus County on Oct. 17, 2018, moments before the end of his shift.

Authorities said Chauncey Askew, who was driving the truck Davis was riding in, shot Conner multiple times during the stop before fleeing the scene with Davis still in the passenger seat.

Askew was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Davis is also charged with parole violation and is currently being held without bond.
