Man indicted in officer-involved-shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Bladen County man involved in a shooting with law enforcement officials has been indicted for Attempted First Degree Murder.

According to a release from the Bladen County District Attorney’s office, Dennis Marshall, was indicted for an incident on the morning of Feb. 13.

Marshall faces indictments for two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count of Assault with a Firearm on a Law Enforcement Officer. Marshall remains in custody in Central Prison on a $1.5 million bond.

Officials say Marshall was shot several times by Officer Blake Bryan and Deputy David Schmale when he shot at them during a traffic stop.

In an SBI Investigation into the incident was conducted after being requested by Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker, Elizabethtown Police Chief Kip Hester, and District Attorney Jon David. The officers actions were found to be justified in response to Marshall’s behavior.
