WASHINGTON (WWAY) — More than 1.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products are being recalled nationwide over concerns they may not have been stored at safe temperatures.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Kayem Foods Inc., based in Chelsea, Massachusetts, is recalling approximately 1,584,361 pounds of products that may have experienced improper temperature conditions during storage.

The recall was announced Saturday, Oct. 17, and includes products manufactured between March 31 and Oct. 7, 2026.

The affected products were distributed to retail stores and foodservice locations across the United States, as well as Hong Kong.

According to FSIS, the issue was discovered after the company received a complaint from a retail customer on Oct. 1 about products arriving at unusually warm temperatures.

An investigation determined that various ready-to-eat meat and poultry products had been stored in a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature fluctuations.

The recalled products carry one of the following establishment numbers inside the USDA mark of inspection:

  • EST. M/P 7839
  • EST. P 20935A
  • EST. M 9520

Consumers can review the complete list of recalled products and UPC codes or view product labels to determine whether they have purchased affected items.

As of the recall announcement, no illnesses had been confirmed in connection with the products.

However, federal officials are concerned some of the recalled items may still be in consumers’ refrigerators.

Anyone who purchased the affected products is urged not to eat them. Instead, the products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Kayem Foods Customer Service at 800-426-6100, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

Additional food safety questions can be directed to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854.
